Twitter Truly Gone Mainstream
May 25th, 2009 by Shawn
With all the attention Twitter has gotten with celebrities like Ashton Kutcher and Oprah signing on some might say it has gone mainstream. I say it went mainstream this morning when I found references to it in two of my newspaper comics. Zits and B.C. both had Twitter references in their strip today which surprised me. Not even Facebook has gotten the kind of momentum that Twitter now has in the Internet and pop culture meme. I am not really sure why, because though I have a Twitter account, I cannot figure out what to do with it.
My favorite podcast, TWIT (This Week In Tech), has been talking about Twitter for almost two years now so it has been around the tech culture for quite awhile. Now, it looks like Twitter has truly gone mainstream.
Yeah, it’s definitely mainstream for me. What I use it for is mainly personal. It’s my daily journal. I sync it to my facebook and gmail status, sync it to my blog, and digest it at the end of every week into a blog post, so I have it forever. Whether or not anyone else finds it remotely interesting or useful is almost irrelevant to me. What I don’t use it for is conversations. I prefer texting or IM (usually on facebook) for that.
Nice to hear from you!
Your blog is so informative … ..I just bookmarked you….keep up the good work!!!!
